Thanksgiving in New York, Part Three

Our Thanksgiving long weekend in NY was capped off by driving up north to find the in-laws’ Christmas tree.  Yup, Clark Griswald style.

Before we left, we had some sustenance.  The FIL’s signature buttermilk pancakes.

They are so light and fluffy, it’s almost guilt-free.  Until you add the Vermont Maple Syrup :)

After a little over an hour  of driving, we arrived to the seas of Christmas trees, ready to be chopped.

We had a tough job to do.  Find a tree for their deck, and a tree for the inside of their house.  We found the indoor tree in about five minutes!

And then I found the outdoor tree not soon after.  Good thing too, cuz it was COLD!

Then began the sawing process.

My FIL, assessing the situation.

And then he let Geoff do the work, on the first tree that is.

Timber!

100_8429

Didn’t I tell you?  My husband is actually Paul Bunyan.

After trimming a few branches, we were set.

100_8431

Good thing my MIL packed extra work gloves.  It definitely dropped in temperature while we were there.

And then came the fun part.  The lifting.

100_8434

The girls got the smaller of the two trees, but it was most definitely still heavy!  Helped work off that pumpkin pie from Thanksgiving.  Or, at least that’s what I told myself :)

100_8435

It was a balancing act on the car before the staff wrapped up our trees in netting and secured them to the roof of the car.

Geoff was called in to help.

100_8439

When we went over to the main pavilion we found so many more families.  That one in the distance had a bonfire going.  They made a day of it!

100_8440

100_8449In the main area, they had lots of decorations, wreaths and other items to purchase.  Geoff took this photo.  Guy humor, but really?!?!

100_8441

They also had a food stand.

100_8445

I needed a hot beverage to warm up my cold self!

100_8447

Hot Apple Cider?  Yes, please!

100_8446

Geoff got a chili dog.

100_8442 100_8443

They even had carriage rides.  I felt sad for those horseys though!

Geoff and I are doing Christmas with my family, so we loved spending the time with his parents to participate in the holiday with them.  We had a great visit and loved every second we spent with his family in New York.  I am so thankful to have them all in my life.

Now, it’s back to the grind, but there’s so much to look forward to this month!  Parties, Caps game, Kennedy Center performance, and MORE!

So much fun! We used to cut down our tree every Christmas...my brother once got lost in the mess of trees haha. That's a pretty schnazzy tree farm w/all that food! The place we went to only gave out free candy canes ;p

how fun!!! I miss getting a tree. We're just never home for the holiday and we don't really have a place to put it here.

i love that kissing balls sign - too funny :)

Your husband DOES look like Paul Bunyan... with maybe a little Captain Morgan thrown in for that pose.

Also, I like your style - let the men cut down the tree while you drink hot apple cider.
