Breakfast & Bargains

Can you tell I’m trying to make my meals more intriguing by pairing them with facts and deals?  Well that’s the plan for breakfast posts.  I’ll go out there and hunt down some deals, freebies, giveaways, hints for getting a good deal, etc. for you and feature them along side my morning cup ‘o coffee.  Because, you know me, I LOVE a good steal.

Bargain Tip of the Day: Shop Ebay when you can.  Lots of times things are brand new and still in the packaging.  We had registered for bedding from Bloomindale’s has since been discontinued.  I searched for it on Ebay – found much of the bedding – and at a fraction of the cost.

I also buy a lot of clothes on Ebay – and all of them are brand new – with tags on them.  If I know my size in the brand – it makes it all the more easy – OR try it on in the store, then get online and see if you can find the same item.  Some of my favorite brands to shop are JCrew, Banana Republic, Trina Turk, Nanette Lepore, Milly, Lilly Pulitzer, Tory Burch.

What I don’t buy on Ebay:

  • Jeans – I am a big fan of Seven for All Mankind and Ebay is a virtual breeding ground for knock-offs.  Even the best shoppers can get duped.  Stick with the store or head to Filene’s to grab them on sale for $99.
  • Sunglasses – Same thing.  Prada, Chanel, Fendi – odds are – you will NOT find the real deal on Ebay.  Your best bet is to find a high end consignment shop and snag a pair.  For DC girls – I’m partial to The Mustard Seed and Designer Resale Boutique (the store that was used in the first Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movie where they bought “the pants”)
  • Purses – Again, the opportunity for a knock-off is way up there.  If you don’t want a name brand bag – fine – but for those purchases I prefer Etsy.

Thanks for the helpful hints! I used to want to buy Lacoste on Ebay sooo badly, but for how cheap it was, I knew it couldn't be real! I do love getting things I know are real... especially when I need to computer parts; they're sooo much cheaper!

I have never bought anything off ebay - I am too afriad of a good deal going bad.

I actually just bought my first used book on Amazon. I had my doubts - but I got my book and it was in good condition. YAY!
