US Open = Office Closed

US Open = Office Closed Well, sort of. For those of you avid golfers – or even if you’re not – you know that today marks the finals of the US Open, due to clouds yesterday. Translation: office is VERY quiet. In an industry full of men, these events have quite the draw. The GM held me over pretty well today, but I did still need my 10:30 snack. Today were some cucumbers and hummus. Just the thing to hold me off for lunch! At precisely noon on the dot, I broke into my salad for lunch. Spinach, Diced Peaches, Cucumber, Gorgonzola and Pine Nuts. Yum! A perfect summer salad! And a Trader Joe’s Vanilla Greek Yogurt on the side. Have you ever tried to golf (outside of miniature)? I took a golf course my senior year of college – but it’s all quickly left me.

Lunchtime Workouts: How to Make the Most of Just an Hour

Lunchtime Workouts: How to Make the Most of Just an Hour I rarely put in a lunchtime workout, mainly because I work straight through lunch, but they certainly come in handy when you’ve got evening plans – which I do More to come on that later. There are a bajillion excuses not to utilize your lunch hour for a workout – “I’ll get too hot,” “I won’t have time to get ready again,” “It’s not long enough,” “I’ll be too hungry,” blah, blah, blah. BUT, if you are lucky enough to have a gym within close proximity to where you work – OR if you have a gym in your office (lucky girl right here) – then those excuses need to fly right out the window! Really, all you need for a lunchtime workout is a good 30 minutes. And on a typical lunch hour, that means you’ve got another 30 for getting undressed, showered, dressed, and allowing for travel time. Totally doable! Here    [...]

Catching Some Zzzzz’s

Catching Some Zzzzz’s As I was walking back from getting a Green Tea in my office this morning, I was inspired to do a post about sleep. It’s uber important for a healthy metabolism and lifestyle, and as busy women (and men) in work, school, family – sleep is often one of the first things to be trimmed. I make a solid effort to get 7-8 hours of sleep a night. I’m typically in bed between 9:30 and 10:00 and am up somewhere between 5:30 and 6:00. I love my duvet – it’s hard to get my outta that bed! According to a CBS News article, a research team at the University of Chicago found that, “‘Sleep deprivation plays an important role in regulating our leptin levels and in controlling our appetite.” That’s in addition to the sluggish effect it plays on our metabolisms. When you aren’t sleeping enough, and you feel sluggish, guess what – so    [...]

Greetings from Parkersburg, WV!

Greetings from Parkersburg, WV! We’re here! We made it in about four and a half hours due to Geoff’s driving skillz, and the wonders of West Virginia speed limits. At around 12:30 we were getting hungry, and started to look around for a place to grab a quick bite. Many, many McDonald’s, Wendy’s and Burger King’s later we saw a Sheetz! I am OBSESSED with Sheetz MTO (made to order) sandwiches, and knew I could find something semi-healthy. We ate in the car. Here’s my sandwich, just ready to go into my belly. On the Whole Wheat Roll I added: Swiss Cheese Lettuce Tomato Pickles Black Olives Salt & Pepper The perfect veggie! I’m off to primp for the rehearsal. I’m one of the readers during the ceremony. For anyone who is a Kappa Alpha Theta, or if you’ve seen the Wedding Crashers you know which reading from the Bible I will be doing. Then we’re    [...]

Fitting in a Workout

Fitting in a Workout Fitting in a workout can often be hard, but as we’ve learned from Rose’s 15 MMC Challenge you can fit in workouts everywhere! Even on a road trip! I might have to try that on my five and a half hour drive to West Virginia on Friday! Anyway, the downtown Washington Sports Club only offered a strength training class that fit in with my schedule during today’s lunch – and I needed a strength day for my half marathon training. This quick 45-minute class had me in and out of there, and left my muscles feeling worked! Before I left, I had this banana to keep up my energy during the class. Google Chat in the background. Was definitely working hard this morning! We did planks, triceps, pushups, ab work, squats, lunges, seriously – the works! When I got back to my desk I ate my lunch. This very vibrant Strawberry Goat Cheese and Pine    [...]

National Running Day!

In case you hadn’t heard yet, today is National Running Day. A time to get out there and run! Did you know that only one in four children gets at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day? Although I didn’t join the Marine Corps Marathon planners on The Mall for their one mile run, I did head down to my gym at lunch for Day Two of my half marathon plan. Two Miles and Strength But, before I went down I knew I needed a snack or I wouldn’t make it. So, at 10:00 I went down to our building’s deli and grabbed ANOTHER coffee and apple. And lunch at my desk was a…….salad and banana. Shocker. Today’s Salad * Spinach * Frozen Corn Kernels * Frozen Bell Peppers * Black Beans * Cheese * Wontons * Tomato * Avocado Banana Are you participating in National Running Day?
