Getting Started...

After months of following the fabulous blogs like Kath Eats, Carrots and Cake, and Eat, Live, Run, I too have decided to start my own food journal and insight into healthy eating, but moreover, a look into all aspects of life and what I believe to be a well balanced life. Ever since I can remember, my weight has always fluctuated on the scale (by the way, doctors scales are brutal), but after seeing a nutritionist in high school, I really took charge of a healthy diet. I went to college in a small town in the Midwest, and late night pizza and constant flowing of keg beer ticked those pounds up. Upon graduation, and living in our nation's capital, I have continued to go up and down 5-10 pounds. When I first started dating my now fiance, there was lots of dining out and nights out with friends --- I like to call this stage the Happy Relationship Fat period, which we can explore more later, but everyone has it. You're happy with your significant other, and completely comfortable. You might as well have ordered a double chin as you so cutely snag another one of his French fries off his plate. I digress....
Anyway, moral of the story is, I'm back on track, planning for a wedding, and thinking about the kind of life and balance I want to show my future children one day. Growing up, I was always told by my mother what her mother told her, "Everything in moderation." It is over time that I have come to realize just how true these three words are. One should never deprive themselves of anything. If you want a cookie after dinner, have one, just don't have the whole bag, even if it says they're fat free. When going out with girlfriends, maybe 7 vodka/sodas is a bit on the excessive side. Do you really need 8 pairs of jeans? You catch my drift.
I am finding this particularly true as I plan my upcoming wedding in March of 2009. The wedding industry has gotten crazy and, while many will likely disagree, excessive. Favors, wedding planners, chair cushions, save-the-dates.......honestly, it's insane, and many brides across the nation have succumb to these standards. It is no wonder our nation is in such a state of economic decline. It's time to moderate.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the blog. I plan to post daily my meals, my thoughts, my goals and perhaps the occasional celebrity gossip. I like to think of it as all my favorite blogs, rolled into one.
